Summary

Relish the incomparable imagination of Christopher Paolini in this thrilling new collection of stories based in the world of the Inheritance Cycle。

It's been a year since Eragon departed Alagaësia in search of the perfect home to train a new generation of Dragon Riders。

Now he is struggling with an endless sea of tasks: constructing a vast dragonhold, wrangling with suppliers, guarding dragon eggs and dealing with belligerent Urgals and haughty elves。 Then a vision from the Eldunarí, unexpected visitors and an exciting Urgal legend offer a much-needed distraction and a new perspective。
_____

This volume features three original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure。

Included is an excerpt from the memoir of the unforgettable witch and fortune-teller Angela the herbalist, penned by Angela Paolini, the inspiration for the character, herself!

It was so nice to be back in Alagaesia again and catch up with some of the characters! My favorite story was the first, both because that gave us the biggest update on what Eragon's been up to, and because we got to see Murtagh。 Angela's story was fine, mostly for the appearances of Elva, and I enjoyed the final & longest story focusing on the Urgals, though I'm not sure the author totally connected it back to our characters。 Great for fans of the series, and some hints throughout that make me t It was so nice to be back in Alagaesia again and catch up with some of the characters! This is boring & the characters are washed out from what they were

Maybe it’s been too long since I read the other books but I found this bitty and unsatisfying。 Shame

This book didn't really add much to the series。 It was just little snippets to please the fans it seems。 The biggest fault is that it was did not follow the storyline established at the end of Inheritance。 At the end of those books Eragon goes to live on his own。。。 But at the beginning of this book it talks about all the interactions that he has with all the other species and ALL the groups that are currently with him。 It makes no sense。 I guess I may have missed something from the end of the la This book didn't really add much to the series。 It was just little snippets to please the fans it seems。 The biggest fault is that it was did not follow the storyline established at the end of Inheritance。 At the end of those books Eragon goes to live on his own。。。 But at the beginning of this book it talks about all the interactions that he has with all the other species and ALL the groups that are currently with him。 It makes no sense。 I guess I may have missed something from the end of the last book but this is not how I pictured it happening。 The one good thing about this book is that, in the audio version, the reader fixed the voice of saphira! I couldn't stand her voice in the other books but in this one it was more along the lines of what I would picture a female dragon sounding like。 。。。more

This shorter book/novella set in Alagaesia was decent, but not nearly as good as the original series。 Typical for a good series though when other books follow the primary resolution。

I read this book straight after finishing the Inheritance cycle, and maybe it was my undoing - this isn’t what I expected it to be。 It’s a nice book, taking place in the same world, but it feels a bit like a fanfic (maybe because it’s so off of the cycle’s plot)? It was a fun read - but don’t expect it to fill the hole in your heart after reading Inheritance:)

Robert Frank

I gave this one 4 stars just because it lacked much of the feel and anticipation of the Inheritance Cycle。 The stories are good and I think it makes a good bridge to a book 5, if there is one。 It’s short at 281 small pages and Christopher Paolini said it was a success at finishing a book in under 500 pages。 I read good and bad reviews of this before I bought it。 I enjoyed it。 It just lacks the intensity of the series。

While the ending was ok I really didn’t get much out of this book。 I read the Inheritance Cycle and while I'm glad I read it, I just don't connect with his writing style very well。 I was curious if I would feel any different with this book years later but I still feel the same way。 But when a sequel comes out, I still think I would read it。 Had a good message at the end of the story tho。 While the ending was ok I really didn’t get much out of this book。 I read the Inheritance Cycle and while I'm glad I read it, I just don't connect with his writing style very well。 I was curious if I would feel any different with this book years later but I still feel the same way。 But when a sequel comes out, I still think I would read it。 Had a good message at the end of the story tho。 。。。more

My expectations weren't high, but I still manage to be disappointed。 It just shows how little work actually went into it (I feel like the publisher really failed here) and。。。 what was the point of this? Interesting to go back to this world a bit, a place I haven't been in years since I finished the main series。 The Witch was quite interesting to me and thought-provoking, which was something that I appreciated。 The Fork was the weak piece for me, and the Worm was solid as well。 Interesting to go back to this world a bit, a place I haven't been in years since I finished the main series。 The Witch was quite interesting to me and thought-provoking, which was something that I appreciated。 The Fork was the weak piece for me, and the Worm was solid as well。 。。。more

I really enjoyed these short stories。 My personal favourite is The Fork, but the other two are enjoyable to。I like how Christopher showed that Alagaësia has a lot more going on than what we know through the books。 This book gives opportunities to think of more stories in this world for yourself。 He showed the story of Alagaësia and Eragon didn’t end with Inheritance。

I'll always appreciate spin-off books that enrich the original story/world, and this 3 part novel did exactly that。 Unfortunately it didn't give what I think everyone was expecting to get in relation to a proper 'update' on Eragon and the characters we've grown to know。 We caught a glimpse of Eragon, Murtagh and Angela, but nothing major that would drive the story forward。 When the next installment arrives I would really like to see Paolini link some plot points back to this book, even if they a I'll always appreciate spin-off books that enrich the original story/world, and this 3 part novel did exactly that。 Unfortunately it didn't give what I think everyone was expecting to get in relation to a proper 'update' on Eragon and the characters we've grown to know。 We caught a glimpse of Eragon, Murtagh and Angela, but nothing major that would drive the story forward。 When the next installment arrives I would really like to see Paolini link some plot points back to this book, even if they are minor, to give this book more purpose。 。。。more

I love the Inheritance Cycle and all things dragons! I only gave this 3 stars because the flow of the book didn’t feel right。 I was confused if it was a collection of short stories from Alagaësia, or if the stories were supposed to flow together (but didn’t)。They were thoroughly enjoyable, but the flow was disjointed。

A nice and easy read。 The three separate stories can easy be enjoyed on their own, so no need to read all parts in the same go。 A nice re-visit to the Inheritance circle。

First things first, Paolini definitely matured as a writer and it shows in this book。 One thing that didn’t change was that he loves to be long winded; there was one chapter that was 112 pages。Fans of the Eragon series will really appreciate this book。 Our understanding of certain people and races of Alagaësia are broadened quite a bit。 Plus, it was fun seeing old characters again and what adventures they’re getting up to。The ending made it clear more is to come。 Which I certainly look forward t First things first, Paolini definitely matured as a writer and it shows in this book。 One thing that didn’t change was that he loves to be long winded; there was one chapter that was 112 pages。Fans of the Eragon series will really appreciate this book。 Our understanding of certain people and races of Alagaësia are broadened quite a bit。 Plus, it was fun seeing old characters again and what adventures they’re getting up to。The ending made it clear more is to come。 Which I certainly look forward to! 。。。more
